Save the date – 30th May

April 23rd, 2008 by u9512450

Just a heads up – the MacDonald Room has been booked for the 30th of May so we can have an all staff meeting. I’ll send around an official email closer to the time to let everyone know. At present the main topics look like being moving forward with the team structures, benchmarking and relaying some more detailed direction to get us from here to there.

Review update

April 18th, 2008 by u9512450

As you may be aware there was an external review of Information Infrastructure Services towards the end of February.  At a meeting on Tuesday the VC said that his office had received a draft copy and that he expected the  final copy by the time he returns in mid May.  His primary focus seemed to be in allaying any concerns we might have had at the process was taking so long. There was no indication as to what was in the draft and it was  positive at the meeting.

Long Week

April 17th, 2008 by u9512450

It has been a while since the last post and it has been a busy time with meetings – this is the 3rd time I’ve started a post and had to go back to edit it to update.

Coffee – I no longer need to update you on the coffee front in Menzies as Treva has been revived and hopefully will last a few more years.
LMS – The possible replacement of WebCT is moving forward. A number of responses were received from an RFI and a short list of systems to be evaluated is being compiled. It is expected that demo evaluation sites will be available later this month. Its hoped a decision by the academic community can be made before July semester and possibly some pilot courses run in second semester.

Podcasts – Marketing and Communications have kicked up gear and are looking at revamping the publicly available video and audio. The plan is to stick it up on iTunes and YouTube as alternate channels to get information out.

Babies – Congratulations to Matt and Trent on their new additions to their families.

Hasta la vista barista

March 27th, 2008 by u9512450

Bad news – Trava our in house barista appears to have given up the ghost with the grinding mechanism not grinding.  We can’t complain too much as it was for domestic use and has lasted 3 years.  With any luck we can source a new machine soon.

PL Meeting

March 27th, 2008 by u9512450

Susan O’Neil took some minutes at the recent program leaders meeting which she has just circulated. I don’t think there is anything confidential so I have uploaded these for those who may be interested. A few things I will mention flu vaccines – email has gone out about these, budgets – I officially received mine Tuesday so can proceed with some of the things I’ve had on hold, Xmas party – there is to be only only one officially supported with local areas parties to be self funded. Perhaps we need a wider section of goodies in Menzies to help raise funds. PL Minutes

Just back from the NSW/ACT CAUDIT meeting on Monday at the University of Wollongong. (If planing to travel over Easter down that way the Picton road is 100% better than the Illawara hwy and is worth the extra kms.) I have uploaded some edited “raw” notes as a test on the blog. If you have any questions let me know. Edited Notes NSW/ACT CAUDIT meeting

At Last!!

It looks like this time I might have managed to get a blog up and functioning without causing systems to hang. Thanks to George Seaton and DC for getting me started.
